Where Did Storage Come From

StorageMart is now run by the founding family's 2nd and 3rd generation of self storage owner.

StorageMart, or the idea of it, came about many years ago when the founder took his family on a vacation to Texas. With hopes of enjoying each other in the summer sunshine, the family packed into their car and headed south.

You can imagine their disappointment when Mother Nature gave them buckets of rain. But rather than sob in a soggy Texas, this family chose to make the most of things and that meant packing back into car and driving around looking for new business opportunities.

As it turned out, they found a gold mine.

After circling the same block full of garage doors lined one after another, the curious bunch stopped in to talk to the property owner. The idea of mini storage rentals was new.

Once the father of this family, and founder of the StorageMart family, chatted with that Texas storage owner for all of 10 minutes, he purchased the leasing rights to the facility. This was the beginning of his pioneering an industry that would grow and become a lucrative real estate business on a global level.

Prior to forming StorageMart, the founding family owned and operated a publically traded company, which was taken over by another storage business. At the time of the takeover, the publically traded company had grown from 4 million square feet of storage property to 11.9 million square feet of rentable storage space. The company had also seen a total market capitalization growth of over $480 million.
