Milton is a suburb of Toronto, Canada that is located on the southern end of Ontario. In 2006, it was noted as being the fastest growing community in Canada. The population grew a little more than seventy percent between the years of 2001 and 2006 from a population of about 31,500 to a population of almost 54,000 people. In its most recent census during the summer of 2008, the population increased to 72,500 with no evidence of the growth stopping. As the case with many North American cities and towns, the beginnings of Milton happened with one man and his desire to start a new life on a new continent. The original settler of Milton hailed from New Castle England where he was granted 100 acres on which to build. The founder thought the best option for the settlement was to build a grist mill, which is a mill that grinds grains into flour. Unfortunately the only opportunities for Milton storage during this time frame was for storing the grains and for storing the flour produced from grinding the grains at the mill. After the establishment of the mill, the settlement became known as Mill Town with a population of 100 in 1837. Eventually it apparently became so cumbersome to both spell and say Mill Town as two separate words that the name was shortened to Milton.

Partly responsible for the recent growth spurts in Milton is tourism. Milton is surrounded by many natural parks, trails, and reserves as well as outskirting the Niagra Escarpment made famous by the well known Niagra Falls.
