Montreal is one of the largest cities in Canada, second only to Toronto. Located just across the border between the United States and Canada north of the state of New York, Montreal has a rich heritage that dates all the way back to 1642 when the city was founded. Originally Montreal was called Ville-Marie or City of Mary. The name Montreal originally referred to the island that the city was built on which is the same name as the three-headed hill that lies in the middle of the city. Breaking up the name in old French we get the two French words Mont and Real which translates to Mount Royal. From the French name, it is easily assumed that the French provided a lot of the history and continues to shape its future.

What brought a lot of attention to Montreal in its early years was being a base for the fur trade as well as being a central location for further French exploration into North America. Back in these days, the only Montreal storage that would have been available would have been there to store the many furs that were destined to return to Europe or to be traded with the Russians. But furs were not the only items that were deemed important enough for early Montreal storage space. These trading posts would have had guns, ammunition, food, as well as places to exchange currency. Unfortunately according to the standards of storage companies today, no weapons, food, organisms alive or dead, or valuables are typically allowed inside of a unit. If they are, then people need to be careful to read their lease to make sure they are not in breach of contract.

At the top of Mount Royal is a park designed by Frederick Law Olmsted, which is now a popular tourist attraction. On top of being one of the largest natural spaces in the city, there are also many activities that can be engaged in this park like skiing. These types of activities require large pieces of equipment that are better stored in Montreal storage versus having them take up a lot of space in the house or vehicle of residents.
