Quebec City is the capital of the Province of Canada that is its namesake, Quebec. Founded in 1608, the history of Quebec City is rich and exciting. Before Quebec City had its name, the local natives referred to it as Stadacona. In French, Quebec City is referred to as Ville de Quebec. The name, as is typical for many metropolitans in this area of Canada, is taken from a word in the Algonquian language. The word is kebec and means where the river narrows. Characteristic to the location of Quebec City, the Saint Lawrence River narrows near the site of the city. Interestingly enough, this city is one of the oldest cities in North America and is where the country of Canada gets is name from. Canada comes from the Iroquoian word kanata which means village or settlement. Originally Quebec City was the only city settled with the intent to settle versus growing from a trade post or an outpost.
In its history, Quebec City saw many of the same sites that other cities in the region did. The trading of fur, timber, and other natural resources helped carve Quebec Citys place in Canadian history. Just like in any other town and city, early Quebec City storage would have contained these in-demand resources.
Today, Quebec City depends on tourism to bring the revenue. One of its most famous events is the Winter Carnival. This festival usually starts on the first Friday of January and goes on for an additional seventeen days. Over the years, the attendance of the festival has grown into the millions and now the largest celebration of winter in the world. During the festival, Quebec City storage would do well to provide units that are freezer controlled. One of the big events of the festival is snow sculptures. The climate is pretty cold, but imagine how much longer a snow sculpture could last if it was stored in a compartment that did not let it melt. The festival also has winter sports as events such as downhill skiing, snow rafting, and dog sledding. Everything but the dogs could be put into Quebec City storage.
