Regina, the capital of Saskatchewan, Canada, is a very diverse settlement. Not as old as some cities established in the 1600s, Regina was established in 1882. The name Regina is derived from the Latin word for queen as a tribute to the crown of England, Queen Victoria or Regina Victoria. Among the native Reginans referring to new visitors, it is often quoted that if you can say the name of the city without giggling, it earns you a bonus twelve points.

Regina was not blessed with topographical features as other planned cities of Canada were. Built on a treeless flat plain, the site served as a veritable tabula rasa or clean slate. The Wascana Creek provided a small feature that was later manipulated and dammed up to form a decorative lake to help improve the aesthetics of the look of the city.
