Trucking down the Interstate at a cool 70 mph, the space around the captains chair seemed immense. Driving an RV was a lot like flying an airplane, Steph reasoned. It felt foreign, yet manageable. Even so, she would be glad to get back to the local RV storage so that she could be done with it and not have to drive it anymore. She would be just as happy being a passenger. In fact, in the three years that she and Dodd had owned the RV, Steph had never driven it until now, as Dodd lay in the bed at the back of the coach, with a broken leg sustained in a freak fall that had seen Dodd plunge over the side of an embankment, having tripped over the edge of the rail. The fall had only been a few feet, but the way that Dodd had come down on the leg had cracked a bone and he was in a lot of pain.

Steph had resigned herself to getting them both back home after they left the hospital. True, they could have taken it slower, and they did stop at night and stay overnight. But Steph could tell that Dodd was exasperated by the whole ordeal and she was really just as ready as he was to get back to the local RV storage and get her husband back home. On the wheels of a bad experience, they could both use a few days to recover in solitude. Traveling always kicked things into high gear, because there was so much to see and take in. Steph and Dodd had come to a point where they were not happy unless they were seeking new frontier and breaking new ground. This would set them back for a bit, but perhaps it was about time for a vacation from vacationing.
