Newts job was a blast. He had happy, open coworkers, a great boss who was laid back yet at the same time professional and trustworthy, and a terrific work environment that emphasized positive interaction, friendly communication and one of his favorite things, music. Newt was a sales representative at a call center for string of facilities across the country in the self storage community. His company represented more than two hundred individual facilities, including may local RV storage and local furniture storage facilities in small and medium sized cities across America, and his call center was always busy.

Karen, his boss, was a self proclaimed music lover. Karen didnt just love one kind of music, however, she loved all kinds of music and she made sure to entertain her staff by offering up the music of French ballets, New Orleans Jazz guitarists or Ukrainian wedding songs. With Karen, it was always a surprise. Newt wondered how much time she spent preparing the soundtrack for each week, as it seemed as if it was always something new. He always made it a point to listen, cocking his head just right and scooting a foot or two closer to her office door.

Karen knew that turning up the volume too loud would bleed through on the phone calls so she made sure to adjust the volume accordingly. It was loud enough that they could stop for a moment and hear it, but not too loud to distract them from doing their jobs. Newt thought that the music was refreshing and he enjoyed Karens easy demeanor and her effort in making sure that those who would appreciate a change of ambiance in the form of music and song would have the opportunity.

I can not help you. That is the phrase that constantly comes out our mouths when we are trying to help the self storage customer . At our place of business, we are only so limited on what we can actually do. It is as if the phrase is never heard by them. They believe since we are answering for that store, we have all the tools necessary at our disposal to take care of their needs.

The self storage customer for the most part hears what they want to hear. When they do not hear what they want to hear, they basically try to tell the rep in which they are specking to what they should say to them. Unfortunately when it comes down to it and at the end of the call, we still are unable to help them and their time of need.

The customer sometimes just really needs to have someone to listen to what they have to say. Sometimes they realize at some point of the call that they are in correct and they have been barking up the wrong tree, but they have already committed their selves into yelling at some one on the phone. It is too late to turn back now. They might as well get their monies worth. I am sure that they realize that they were not very nice to the person that they are talking to. No one wants to be yelled at. The reps or store managers definitely earn gold stars for their efforts to take care of some of these rude customers.
