Many members of my family are self organizers . They are always prepared for anything, everything has a place in the house, and their houses are always perfect. My parents are the worse. They clean every weekend whether the house really needs it or not. For that reason, I claim that I may have been adopted. To me that is the only thing I can think of for why I do not share their zero tolerance for dirt and disorder. Maybe I am just a rebel.

In the grand scheme of things, you could say that there have been relatively few people who have enjoyed the view of earth from outside of earth, firsthand. There are so many unexplored planets, galaxies, nebulas, and other space attractions. And while I have asked people to think of storage in terms of space, have you ever thought about space in terms of storage? Think about it. There is so much room. We could use Pluto for natural climate controlled units. We could give earth a set of rings by putting mobile spaces in orbit. And black holes could be the new commercial space. There are so many possibilities for space storage .

Depending on where in the country a storage facility is built, the buildings may have to be constructed out of different materials. Storage in California has to be aware of earthquakes. The Midwest is more concerned with tornadoes. And the Gulf Coast states are on the look out for tropical storms and hurricanes. This dictates whether the buildings are made out of aluminum, concrete, or even carbon polymers. Some companies even choose to place solar panels on the roofs of their storage buildings to offer a green solution to energy consumption concerns.

I tell them that the with outdoor, the environment inside the unit is very similar to a house garage. So the weather outside affects more directly the goods stored inside. With an indoor unit, the outside temperature and weather is less of an issue. It is the better option of the two to store items such as high end electronics, photographs, leather furniture, and art work.

If you have pets like me, then you probably have to go
through furniture more often than a household without pets. Basically it is the
same mindset as for those with children. Pets make so many messes and the
horrible part is they do not know they did anything wrong. My dog Jupiter is a
Great Dane and one of the worst things he does is drool. It is always worse
right after he drinks water. Just imagine a horse with Niagra Falls
coming out of his mouth and that is my dog. It gets on the furniture, it gets
on me, and I have even managed to find a couple spots on the ceiling.

Anyway, needless to say the furniture needs to be replaced
for bio hazardous materials. So what I do, since I like the furniture to match
somewhat, is to buy a piece at a time and store them in a furniture
storage until I have a full set. Unfortunately I cannot afford to get a whole set at one time so piece by piece works for me. Then I take out the old, bring in the new, and
wait a year. Then rinse and repeat.

Getting a unit to put your extra stuff is a great idea to declutter your home. But if you want to make your stuff organized while it is inside the unit will probably involve getting some self shelves to help out the process. Many facilities do not offer shelving inside the units so you are forced to stack on the ground and do your best. Some easily assemblable shelving can be purchased at a hardware store to get things off the ground, in plain site, and easier to access.

Often storage facilities that offer really low pricing do so because they have found areas they can cut corners, still offer the basic service, and turn a profit. What corners do they cut? It may not be easy to notice as some services go unseen by many renters. Pest control is something that all storage facilities should do as it decreases the likelihood of insect or rodent invasion into your storage unit. However, this is but one corner that can be cut. What else might you lose out on?

If you have purchased moving boxes recently, then you know that there is a variety of different typs of storage boxes out there. Aside from just the simple six sided cardboard contraptions we usually picture when talking about boxes, there are a handful of essential boxes that are necessary when packing household belongings. One type is the wardrobe box. As the name implies it is mean for clothes. It is a tall box with a bar to hang clothes on hangers. Dish boxes are great too. They are created with slits to hold dishes and slots to hold cups and glasses. File boxes exist for paperwork. Their construction makes them look like a single drawer which makes it easy to keep papers in folders, files, and separate from each other. Finally we have frame boxes. This type of box is created to hold paintings, pictures, or basically anything that is framed. If you want to make sure your stuff stays the same as when you packed it, make sure it is in the right kind of box.

Finding a new place to live

Packing up all of your stuff to make sure nothing gets lost or breaks

Renting a moving truck

Finding a new job
